I think there’s a couple reasons why people are still skeptical about the cost:

- The way this started was shady, so people don’t trust anything coming out of city hall

- It was first discussed as necessary repairs, not modernization. So if person A says “I support moving because staying (modernization) will cost $1B”. Person B hears “repairs cost $1B”. And we know repairs alone aren’t $1B, so person B will be frustrated

- The combining of the stadium and the city hall debates. Plano is likely to approve subsidizing the Stars with $700M over 41 years. Whether it’s that level of subsidy or something else like giving away the land under the building for free, if someone is coming at this from a purely financial perspective they might be opposed to those subsidies but support moving city hall

I totally agree on the housing part. I hope zoning reform goes well, a lot is hanging on making it easier to build in Dallas.
