I think there’s a couple reasons why people are still skeptical about the cost:
- The way this started was shady, so people don’t trust anything coming out of city hall
- It was first discussed as necessary repairs, not modernization. So if person A says “I support moving because staying (modernization) will cost $1B”. Person B hears “repairs cost $1B”. And we know repairs alone aren’t $1B, so person B will be frustrated
- The combining of the stadium and the city hall debates. Plano is likely to approve subsidizing the Stars with $700M over 41 years. Whether it’s that level of subsidy or something else like giving away the land under the building for free, if someone is coming at this from a purely financial perspective they might be opposed to those subsidies but support moving city hall
I totally agree on the housing part. I hope zoning reform goes well, a lot is hanging on making it easier to build in Dallas.
You might have only two minutes to deliver that speech. Hope you talk fast.
You put better into words, more than I can, an objective sense of reason about the issue. Thank you, sir!
Very kind, thank you!
